My husband sold my two-million-dollar

“Five dollars,” Lisa cut in, jabbing the papers toward him. “Legal. Signed. Samuel handled it.”
That’s when I noticed Samuel’s hand on the car door, hesitating—then staying put. Eighteen years together, and he couldn’t even look at me while stealing my life’s work. That part stung worse than the betrayal.
Lisa’s phone rang. She answered with a giggle far too bright for her age.
“Yes, baby. I’m telling her now.” She turned the phone toward me. “Samuel wants to talk.”
I walked to my tailgate slowly and closed it with care.
“Tell him he knows where to find me.”
I climbed into my truck without another word. In the mirror, I caught Tom scanning the papers Lisa had shoved at him, his confusion settling into disgust.
He’d seen enough bad deals in his life to recognize forgery.
The drive back to the ranch took twelve minutes. Muscle memory guided every turn—past the Henderson foal learning to run, past the oak split by lightning years ago, up the rise overlooking the valley I’d spent two decades restoring from forgotten land into something alive.
Elena’s truck was parked near the barn when I arrived. She’d managed the ranch for twelve years. Sharp instincts. Sharper loyalty.
She stepped out holding a clipboard, eyes locked on my face.
“Lily.”
