My Husband Embarrassed My Mom at Family Gathering — Not Knowing She Owned the Company He works for

My mother came to our house for Thanksgiving that year.

Leonard picked her up.

He had started doing this, a small gesture he had decided on without being asked.

On the drive home from the gathering, she told me later, he had asked her about the first acquisition. She had told him the whole story, and he had listened to the whole thing, and at the end had said, “You built something that’s going to outlast all of us.”

She had looked out the window for a moment.

Then she had said, “That was always the point.”

The moral of all of this is something my mother said to me after the second monthly meeting, sitting in her kitchen with tea.

“The most dangerous thing a person can do is decide they already know the shape of someone. Because the shape is never what you think it is. And when you find out what you missed, you have to decide if you’re the kind of person who can grow from that or the kind who can’t.”

Leonard decided he was the kind who could.

I am still grateful for that decision every day.

The end.

If you made it to the end of this story, thank you for watching. I hope it stayed with you and gave you something to think about. If you enjoyed it, don’t forget to subscribe and be part of the journey.
